Hold onto Peace
Just before the Lord split the Red Sea, Moses said to the Israelites, “The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace” (Exodus 14:14). Reading about this anxiety-producing moment in Biblical history, I can focus on the unchanging character of God and His will for dealing with anxious circumstances and struggles. I discover that He not only provides the ability for me to hold onto peace while He fights my battles – but He expects me to hold onto peace, onto Him. Two practical ways I have found in Scripture to hold onto this peace are: 1) think thoughts that recognize the work the Lord is doing in me and will continue doing in me (Isaiah 26:3) and likewise, 2) discipline my emotions to be rational and patient for the victory Jesus will bring into my stress level and current situation (1 Peter 1:13-15).
