Book Review: I Declare War by Levi Lusko
Pastor Levi Lusko doesn’t write with holy pretense, which is a good thing. On the other hand, the edginess and opinions in this book, I Declare War: 4 Keys to Winning the Battle with Yourself can be a little tough to take for some readers – but it might be worth your read anyway. This is a highly practical resource if insecurity, pessimism, fears, worries, doubts, frustrations, anxious and depressed thoughts, weakness, disappointment in yourself, being stuck, and/or behavior or interactions with people you later regret are making you want to experience new ways of functioning.
Useful Strengths of I Declare War
- Offers tasks that non-task-oriented readers will appreciate as much as structured persons will
- Comes from a place of personal struggle and victory
- Presents Scripture with highly relatable explanations
- Backs up arguments with on-point, effective stories
- Puts an unusual emphasis on the role of the words you speak, compared to what you typically hear
- Teaches some memorable catch-phrases to keep in mind that will stabilize your emotions
- Gives some mental techniques to use when interacting with loved ones that will help reduce your frustrations and increase your closeness with them
- Provides skills for using habits for you, instead of against you
- Responsibly preaches the power of the Holy Spirit with a goal of propelling you onto a steady path forward
- Concludes the book with just as much great Biblical advice as is provided in the beginning and the middle
- Provides very appealing graphics on the cover and throughout the book, and a bullet point recap in the back of the book – for an easy review of his big points
A Prayer Regarding This Book
May this book be a very helpful stepping stone…to bridge the gap between the secular world and the Lord…so that modern Christians will be able to really read Scripture – love it – and be changed by it. In the powerful Name of Jesus. Amen.
