A peculiar friend

A Peculiar Friend

One of my friends loves others in a peculiar way. If she could, this long-distance friend would post ads all around the world about the love and acceptance she has for me! Before you determine I’m a total narcissist, please know her repeated declarations of love are not about who I am, but about the love she possesses. Such extraordinary affirmation reminds me of Anna’s night and day devotion and service to God (Luke 2:37). My friend and Anna have in common the unconditionality and persistence of the gospel, leaving no room for doubt about their love for God and others. They can love in this peculiar way because they’ve personally and deeply received for themselves the gospel of Jesus Christ (ultimate love and grace). These women influence me to pray: “Father, make me more in tune to Your steadfast love and acceptance of me. Help me comprehend Your singing over me (Zephaniah 3:17), so that I’ll be transformed and fit for loving You and others in a peculiar, Christ-like way. Amen.” We can love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19).

With hope,
