Created to Care

Book Review: God’s Truth for Anxious Moms by Sara Wallace (Part 1)

Sarah Wallace’s book, Created to Care: God’s Truth for Anxious Moms, is an excellent read because this author has a personal reliance on the Lord that leads to useful day-to-day application.  As such, this book has a far greater reach than only to anxious moms.

Should You Buy This Book?

Even though this book offers helpful advice for anyone struggling with anxiety, Sara is specifically writing to moms of babies, preschoolers, and elementary-aged children to explain how to balance structure with flexibility for a lower level of anxiety.  If this population describes you, if you would like to buy a gift for a new mom, or you work with moms, this book is highly recommended. Sara’s writing style and experiences make her highly relatable and encouraging.  While the book is not organized in the most linear fashion, with a good pen or highlighter, mommies can pull out a good list of takeaways. She covers topics that are deeply meaningful to you right now such as exhaustion, sleep-deprivation, discipline, protecting your children, comparisons to other moms, and priorities.

Consider this one out of many excellent points she makes:

Research and due diligence are good ways to be responsible parents, but numerous resources can also create anxiety. We are to use our findings and gifts – but not rest in them.

Sara goes on to discuss practical responses such as saturating your motherhood in a faithful style of prayer, and tempering your decisions. Because this is such an anxious age, considering the prevention of anxiety in moms of young children is as common as packing lunches. And this book would be a great companion for the journey.

If you don’t fit in the population group to whom this book was written and don’t see the need to purchase the book, but are always wanting to learn more about dealing with anxiety, go to part 2 of this article here.

“No king is saved by the multitude of an army; a mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety…Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy Name.” (Ps. 33:16, 17, 20, 21)
