Mind over Matter

Mind over Matter

Sometimes my thoughts can be time and energy wasters. Since my thoughts are in my brain and my brain is in my body, the commands to a) “present my body as an acceptable sacrifice to God” and b) “be transformed by the renewing of my mind” (Romans 12:1-2) provide a solution for these non-productive thoughts. First, even in the middle of my internal chaos, I ask Jesus to redirect my thoughts toward Biblical principles and give me His heart for the matter. I know this will be a turning point for my attitude. Then, once He has me in this submissive posture, I can consider another perspective, sometimes even an opposite perspective to what I naturally think. Gaining God’s perspective moves me to perceive truth and reality, sharpens my cognitive skills, and improves my mood. This hope-filled obedience has enabled me to break bad habits, add hours to my life, and think with the mind of Christ.

With hope,
