No Head, No Crown
Recently when reading Proverbs 12:4a, I just had to smile at God’s supreme design and care for women. “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband.” I began to picture this verse in my mind and what it must mean. First, since an excellent wife is the crown of her husband, and a crown is worn on his head, then his wife is meant to be his crowning glory. But, if a woman won’t view her husband as head, then as a headless crown, she will just crash to the ground. I began to imagine myself as such a crown, bejeweled in all my favorite gemstones of course. But before I could get too fancy, I had flashbacks of foolish attempts of taking charge and failing to submit to my husband’s headship. I could feel my crown now slipping off my husband’s head. Thankfully, I began to experience comfort, hope, and motivation as I continued to play this out in my mind. I could see my husband’s large, strong hands grabbing his crown before it could slide down any further. He was lovingly and safely placing me back on the tip top of his balding head where I belong.
With hope,
