Our Lenten Progress Report
After two weeks of Lent, it’s a good time to evaluate the physical-spiritual connection before any complacency can settle upon us. First, on the surface, maybe you’re starting to see how you’ve developed some new habits. Or you’re thinking the sacrifices are still challenging, but perhaps feel a bit more normal now. Next, we can go deeper and look at the spiritual changes. Has the Lord begun to show us a sin He wants to help us overcome as we approach Resurrection Sunday? Has relying on Him in the physical sacrifices led us to having a better listening ear in prayer? Is He bringing someone to mind to serve in a new way? Or, maybe on the other hand, it’s troubling to discover not much is happening spiritually? In past Lenten seasons I’ve gotten to this point in the process and then began to coast instead of boldly praying for more spiritually. When not perceiving as much spiritual progress as expected, we can remember: 1) The Lord loves righteousness and goodness, including the Lenten offerings He initiated in us (Psalm 33:5), 2) He desires for us to keep praying and waiting (Matthew 26:41), and 3) He can be trusted to bring about the “results” (Philippians 1:6).
