Summer Series for Students: Prayer

“I’ll pray for you.” How many times have you said it and then forgotten? It’s a thing. Or how many times have you fallen asleep or drifted way off in thought mid-prayer?  You’re in good company. Having imperfect prayer habits is a shortcoming every Christian has to face and address. But like every other godly endeavor, you have the grace of God to transform your prayer life.

The Truth about Prayer

  • When you don’t know what to say, pray Scripture.
  • Nothing beats obsessing and feeling depressed like interceding for others or concentrating your prayers around Christ’s character growing in you.
  • Writing your prayers helps your mind more fully attend to your concerns.
  • You can ask someone to share their prayers with you so you can pray what they’re praying.
  • Use a prayer book, such as The Valley of Vision, A Collection of Puritan Prayers & Devotions or Prayer Portions by Sylvia Gunter.
  • Looking for God’s faithfulness and then thanking and praising Him is not only a joyful way to praise and pray, but is also a form of spiritual warfare against the devil.
  • Having a prayer partner forms bonds, provides accountability, and gives you the opportunity to cherish the prayers of a brother or sister in Christ.
  • Put prayer time in your planner just like you schedule appointments, social plans, and vacations.

Prayer & Blessing

Diligence is man’s precious possession (Prov. 13:27) and prayer strengthens your weak flesh (Matthew 26:41).
