getting dressed

When Getting Dressed is a Chore

A finely dressed woman can make the rest of us feel like it was easy for her to get that look! But, behind the scenes, putting forth one’s best can be difficult for any number of reasons such as: 1) adjusting to postpartum physical changes, 2) feeling insecure about an adolescent body, 3) dealing with health challenges that cause hair loss or skin issues, 4) facing the inevitability of passing beauty and physical weakening that comes with aging ), and 5) numerous other reasons and challenges. Laboring to get “dressed and ready” has increased my desire to build up other women  specifically for their willingness to bless God and the world with their presence and pleasing appearance. What a fresh opportunity to encourage each other in a God-honoring pursuit of displaying feminine glory. Connecting in this way also reduces isolation and depression caused by poor body image. Rather than comparing ourselves to other women or competing with them, we can first invite them to share when getting dressed is a chore. Then, we can move each other toward relief and feminine confidence as our hard works give us praise in the gates. Bonus for dads, brothers, husbands, and boyfriends: discourage apathy in the women of your lives so you can rise up and call them blessed for the fruit of the beautiful work of their hands (Genesis 1:27, Psalm 139:14-16, Proverbs 31:30, 31, 1 Corinthians 11:7b, 2 Corinthians 4:16-17, Ephesians 4:29, 31, 32, 1 Timothy 2:9-10, 1 Peter 3:2-4)

With hope,
